oh i’ve been waiting ages to be able to post this—

@supercorpzine gave me an incredible opportunity to participate in their project again this year, and i’m unbelievably grateful. it’s been a brilliant experience, they’ve done so much incredible work, and i’m really honoured to be able to share this one with you x

(if you read the zine, you’ve seen the shortened version of this, but here it is in it’s entirety!)

thirteen birthdays

It’s nearly Lena’s birthday. She knows it’s coming, because she’s been watching the days creep forward on her calendar at work for weeks, but she still doesn’t know what to expect. Lena had always been largely content to ignore her own birthday. She’d buy the slightly higher shelf whiskey for herself, maybe, or book tickets to a particularly extravagant show in town, but that was the extent of it. Kara, on the other hand, had a history of placing heavy importance on birthdays.

She had first witnessed it with Alex; Kara spent two weeks planning the most intricately planned surprise party Lena had ever seen, complete with the participation of almost the entire DEO, a cake flown in directly from Alex’s favorite Midvale bakery, and some kind of heartstoppingly expensive, as-yet-unavailable-on-the-market, limited quantity body armour that Kelly had promised she’d love. And it was cute, Lena had to admit, the excess that Kara was willing to go to in pursuit of being sure that the people she cared about felt celebrated, but it also seemed like it was probably a little bit exhausting to be on the receiving end of all of that attention.

With Lena, it was different.

re hozier: which tracks are killing you most thus far?

i had a very solid cry reading the lyrics of I, Carrion and then i thought maybe it was fine and i was safe and then butchered tongue put me into a state and then abstract (psychopomp) had me shuddering and hyperventilating in sobs like an absolute creature and i would not change that experience for anything i must say

The end of an echo isn’t silence. Your ear, anticipating the pattern, fills in the gap. A missing final beat as real as the first crash, the first shatter. A thing your mind creates in the after. The same’s true for feelings. They’re all stories we tell ourselves.

Hello hello!! So in a funny turn of events your Alex Danvers playlist has become my new Sunday playlist, mostly because it’s my most reliable gym day and boy is it a good gym playlist. Guess the point of it is you make good Sunday playlists! Hoping your week has been restful and there’s more rest ahead of you in the week to come!! Sending good vibes - SMA

oooh i am glad to hear!! i wish i hadn’t let them fall by the wayside bc i have so many more good songs for ALL of the playlists but my brain is no longer laying the supergirl overlay over every single thought i’ve ever had so it takes a lot more work to get into the right headspace iykwim

Supercorp Fic Trends

image

I was inspired by the femslash stats to take a look at supercorp fics, and graphed the history of supercorp fics created per month for the past 4 years. It looks like supercorp used to average about 330 fics/month, and now averages around 130 fics/month.

There are some very clear peaks like:

  • The S6 mid-season finale (May 2021)
  • Supercorptober ๐ŸŽƒ (run by @kmsdraws) every year
  • Supercorp Big Bang โšก (@supercorpbb) is creating a spike now!!

There's definitely fewer new fics these days compared to years ago... but the show has been finished close to 2 years at this point, and we're still getting an average of 4 new fics a day? We're still running events and getting excited on twitter about the actors?? I think that's very cool!

(There are plenty of ways to crunch data and we can debate on what gives the "best" view, but this is the least error-prone way I could think of. The trend line is exponential as the rate of change seemed more meaningful than the change itself.)

Anyway, was mostly curious, both as a supercorp author and an incurable nerd. The fandom may be calming, but we're nowhere near done ๐Ÿ’—
